Welcome to the Blog Plantation Y'all

Our family welcomes you and thanks you for stopping by to visit. We are delighted you have taken a few minutes out of your day to spend with us. We are Joe and Jessica. We have two children and one very regal beagle! We post often and it usually includes details of our Christian faith; life here in the South; entertaining our family and friends; tales of our travels; as well as the daily adventures of having two children. Oh, and our passion for Alabama Crimson Tide Football!
Grab a mint julep, relax, and enjoy the site. Don't forget to leave us a message. You can click under any blog entry to do so. We love to hear from our guests.
(Also, please remember that all writings and pictures are the sole property of the blog plantation and it's authors and may not be duplicated, unless otherwise noted. )

Thanks for dropping by Y'all!

WAIT!! I didn't see Patrick Swayze.... did you?

This weekend I had the opportunity to attend an exclusive bloggers event.

12 other bloggers and myself were invited to Cahaba Clayworks.

We made our own pottery
under the instruction
of world renowned potter
Tena Payne

( follow her on Twitter

Her pottery Earthborn Pottery can be found in restaurants
at The Bellagio, The Beau Rivage, and many others.

Her pottery speaks to your primal soul and stirs something inside of you.
She and her partner
master potter
Larry Allen
( who is now my hero)
(he did this in like 5 minutes)

hold classes at the studio
and let me just tell you they are a blast!

We learned how to throw on the wheel, which
is too fun!
Here I am

We were told to start,
we needed to form a ball
I was very excited and just knew I would be the star student
because

mine
looked JUST like Larry's!!!

Well, things may have started off promising
but my clay had other ideas

Like the top flying off of the bowl and across the room.
But hey, Tena said
everyone can play chopsticks ....
Mozart takes practice!

So back at it

yeah....
well,
Rome wasn't built in a day,
third time is the charm ...
RIGHT?

This is where Larry comes in...
he took my clay

but then
he brought me brand new clay
AND
he helped me!!!

Are you thinking what I am thinking?
It sure looked different when
Demi Moore and
Patrick Swayze did it

Under his expert guidance, I finally got it!
Larry told us that every piece of clay
wants to be a plate.
We have to help it reach it's true
calling.

Here is one of my pieces!

All total we got to make four.
Two on the wheel and two hand formed.
I promise when
I pick them up I will show them to you.
It takes about four weeks.
Although, I was perfectly happy to claim Larry's
as my own.

Tena let us all pick a bowl of our choice to bring home

I scored several pieces,
We just might have to give one away...

here on the blog???
hmmm,
stay tuned!

It was so fun to meet other bloggers from the area.
Especially those that I read all the time!
It was cool to see everyone's face
when they would say
now you write????
Then the other would fill in the blank
and everyone would just fall out with
Oh my gosh!!
Here are the other bloggers
All dear sweet friends now!

What fun!!! Wish I could have been with all of you. Working with clay and a potter's wheel is so much fun. And to do it with such skilled help (Larry)...can't ask for more. So glad you had fun with the other bloggers. Loved all the photos...

I saw you on Wendy's blog and had to pop over and say HI. What fun y'all had !!! I'm most certain my clay would turn out a plate...maybe ; )

Also, is that sweet tea, by chance on your header photo? I've just moved to Florida nd can NOT make a good pitcher of sweet tea down here. I made some today with bought spring water and it turned out soooo dark.

OK Jessica,

Keep us informed....
