Foodie Friday!

It's Foodie Friday!!!

Be sure to stop by and see Gollum for more FF!

This week we are making cinnamon rolls!

This will take about two hours.

SHOPPING LIST:

2 cups of warm water

1/2 cup sugar

two packages of dry yeast

2 eggs

1 teaspoon salt

1/3 cup Canola oil

6 to 7 cups of flour

cinnamon/ sugar mix (1/2 cinnamon 1/2 sugar)

Dissolve the yeast in the warm water. Let sit for a minute. Add the sugar and salt. Mix. Add the cooking oil , 2 eggs, 2 cups of flour and beat until smooth.
Stir in 3 more cups of flour.

Begin kneading the dough, adding the final cup of flour. If the dough seems too sticky, knead in more flour, a quarter to a half cup at a time.
Let the dough "rest" for 15 to 20 minutes.

Roll the dough into a rectangle that's 24 to 30 inches long by about 16 inches wide. Spread softened butter and sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar.

Starting at the wide end, roll into a log.
Cut the cinnamon rolls into equal sized slices (about one inch wide each I make larger rolls so I cut much larger slices)

Place into two greased 9 x 13 pans. Put in a warm place to rise for 45 minutes.
Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes until the cinnamon rolls are golden brown.
Allow to cool for 5 minutes and then turn out of the pans.

Then for the Icing

2 cups powdered sugar

1 tablespoon butter, melted

1 teaspoon vanilla

milk or cream (2 to 4 tablespoons)

See my cinnamon roll candle?

You can barely tell the difference!

It smells like the real thing!

I usually run from any recipe involving yeast, but these look so good I may have to boot the Pillsbury dough boy in favor of these! I do love the smell as they cook-even the dough boy's :)

Mmmmmm.....I can smell them all the way down here in central FL. I may just have to get out my ingredients and get started on my own batch of rolls.

Fresh Cinnamon Rolls have become my traditional Christmas gift to all my close friends and family. I, too, used to run from yeast until a dear neighbor in PA showed me how simple it really was to work with it. She also started me on the CR tradition by bringing a basket of hot cinnamon rolls over on Christmas morning. I will never forget that smell or that taste...and the friendship which understood how homesick I was for my family back in FL.

Enjoy your rolls...and your family.

Wonderful! I am the only one who really eats these so I have to say that I buy them at Ikea and eat them on the way home in the car:) I know you are not suppose to talk on the cell phone and drive but there is no law saying I can't eat cinnamon buns while driving:)
